The Freedom to Stay or Go

Love isn’t about controlling someone’s choices. It’s about trusting myself enough to survive them.

I used to ask:

“But don’t you worry they’ll leave?”

And then I realized:

If someone wants to leave, they’ll leave. My worrying won’t change that. If someone wants to stay, they’ll stay. My fear isn’t what keeps them here.

That moment shifted everything for me.

Security doesn’t come from finding someone who would never hurt me. It comes from knowing I’ll never abandon myself if they do. That’s the kind of strength that transforms relationships.

The healthiest bonds aren’t built on constant reassurance. They’re built on two people choosing each other freely—not because they’re forced to, but because they want to.

The moment my peace depends on another person’s behavior, I’ve handed them the key to my happiness. And that’s a key I’m taking back.

Because the greatest freedom isn’t knowing they’ll stay.

It’s knowing I’ll be okay either way. 🤍
